But wait…what’s a Macro again???
A macronutrient is a substance required in relatively large amounts by living organisms. There are three macronutrients required by humans: carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Each of these macronutrients provide energy in the form of calories.
For example:
- CARBOHYDRATES have 4 calories per macro.
- PROTEINS have 4 calories per macro.
- FATS have 9 calories per macro.
This means that if you look at a food label and it lists 10 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of protein, and 0 grams of fat, that food would contain 40 calories. So basically, any ratio of protein, carbs and fat are your macros!
